Hi From the Isle of Islay off the West Coast of Scotland

Hi Everyone,

Well this is a very beautiful if somewhat isolated part of the world.

Since our last blog we have travelled by bus from Glasgow to Port Askaig ( Kennacraig Ferry Terminal) and spent a glorious 3 hours getting sunburnt (only I could get sunburnt in England (ha ha ha)) in transit to the Isle Of Islay.

We then took possession of our hire car for the long 20 mile drive to Port Ellen (just kidding it only took about 30 minutes). I have attached some photos of some of the scenery.

After a quick walk we had a beer in the best beer garden in the world (see photo) and then dinner at one of the local pubs last night. I had Steak Pie with Mashed Potatoes and Peas and JR had a Venison Pie with Mashed Potatoes and Peas. This was washed down with an Italian white wine. At that point we decided to sample the local speciality ( which is of course Scotch Whisky). After a couple of exceptional tastes we returned to our little B&B and pretty much crashed straight away. Had a good nights rest and this morning had our breakfast which consisted of (for me) some cereal, Fresh fruit salad, Cup of Tea, Smoked Salmon Omelette, Toast and Jam. I thought the plan was to lose weight on this trip !!!!! ha ha.

The pictures are from the top - the beer garden, from the ferry , the view from the window of our room at the B&B. The next picture is taken from across the road seen in the room with a view picture.

Todays plan is to spend an hour or so catching up with everyone from the Cyber cafe which operates on an honesty system. £1 for 20 minutes. Then we are going to the Ardberg distillery for a tour and apparently they have a cafe there as well so we will probably have lunch there before going for a drive around the Island.

The plan for tomorrow is to actually go for a walk or two to start getting tuned for the big walk which starts on Friday at St Bees. So we thought a 9 mile walk to the the northernmost part of the Island along the coast in the Sound of Islay would be just the trick . Should take 4-5 hours return apparently.
